Board of Trustees for The Nightlight Cinema in Akron recently announced the impending departure of Kurtiss Hare, executive director, effective in August.
"Kurtiss has been an indispensable part of our organization since before we opened our doors on July 1, 2014," said Matthew S. Wachter, chair of the cinema's board. "The Akron community has benefited greatly from his artistic vision." Kurtiss joined the organization in 2013 as Film Programmer and Communications Officer, and in 2015 was promoted to executive director. He has worked tirelessly to promote the mission of The Nightlight Cinema to “Advance Cinema and Community in Tandem.” The Board of Trustees has begun a search for a new executive director who will bring a similar affinity for film, intellectual pursuit, and community advancement. During the transition process, Kurtiss said he will “do everything in my power to encourage a successful and smooth transition to a next generation of Nightlight leadership.”
