TWINSBURG -- Government officials, Twinsburg Chamber of Commerce members, safety officials and people who just like ice cream stopped by the July 11 ribbon cutting to welcome Handel's Homemade Ice Cream and Yogurt.
Or, rather, welcome Handel's back to Twinsburg.
Handel's, at 10735 Ravenna Road, Suite 20, is owned by Jenn Matthew. The 1,600-square-foot facility employs 16 part-time staff and a full-time morning manager.
The welcome back party included proclamations from Gov. John Kasich's office, from U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (R, Ohio-14), and from Twinsburg Mayor Ted Yates. Costumed characters and balloon animals were provided courtesy of Kidz World Entertainment in Twinsburg Township.
"We are excited to have them back," said Abby Fechter, executive director of the Twinsburg Chamber of Commerce in a July 14 phone interview. "We got phone calls all the time from people wondering when something would go in there."
So far, business at Handel's has been brisk, said Erika Jakubs, the morning manager.
"Since the ribbon cutting, we've had a lot pf people come in," Jakubs said. "Some didn't een know we were reopened. They were so excited, they todl us how much they missed Handel's. It's nice seeing so many regulars and so many die-hard Handel's fans. Twinsburg is a nice community."
