Club Z! In-Home Tutoring Services has opened a branch in Northeast Ohio and is now serving the Twinsburg area.
Club Z! of the Western Reserve, owned by Dr. Mark Bowles of Cuyahoga Falls, provides individual tutoring to students in their homes, at convenient times to parents and focusing on the curriculum with which they struggle in school.
"In one way we are like the old small town physicians," Bowles said. "We actually make house calls."
Bowles said that tutoring is performed in the student's home to provide a comfortable and non-competitive environment for learning.
In-home tutoring can eliminate the pressure and potential embarrassment of the classroom setting and allows each student to focus on the lesson at hand.
"It is a terrific educational model where students are not afraid to ask for help," Bowles said.
Bowles has devoted his professional life to education, he said. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Akron, and his Ph.D. in the history of science from Case Western Reserve University.
He has written 15 books, including three college-level textbooks, and has been a professor of history for the past eight years at the American Military University.
As a parent of three girls, Bowles says he knows the importance of this in-home service.
"Our tutors reach students more quickly and effectively because they give students the individual attention they need," he said. "And no extra driving for the parents. They spend enough time being Uber drivers for their kids."
Club Z! offers tutoring in all core subjects -- reading, math, science and language arts. In addition they offer study skills, SAT, ACT and other assessment test preparation.
